Caveat
is taking the next few months off from doing shows in order to
concentrate on writing new material.
Red
is Caveat's 3rd and most involved album to date, showcasing their
steady writing and musical growth resulting in a much more focused
collection of songs delivering both a heavier and more technical
approach to the songwriting.
PRESS
Caveat's Greg Musgrave was interviewed by PunkTV.ca's Dixon Christie.
You can check out the interview here.
Caveat was interviewed as part of a featured spotlight on "The
Greatest Underground Show On Earth: Vol.2" on
the Vinland Radio Podcast. Also interviewed on the show were Inner
Surge and Strings of Mass Destruction as well as
playing 9 tracks from the album. You can hear the full show HERE.
"Red" is sitting at #13 on the Top 100 Metal Releases
chart on LegalDownload.net.

Keith Fraser says "the new CD ‘RED’ from CAVEAT,
bends the metal, twists it, heats it up and leaves it on the cold
hard ground as a pool of hot bubbling molting thrash metal masterpiece.
CAVEAT has produced an album that is sometimes bombastic and grand,
other times dark but always with high-speed prog metal blasting
with every deep cut. CAVEAT has produced an album that is complex
with an atmosphere that is hot . . . ‘RED’ hot."
Caveat was named as Artist Spotlight at TheProgFiles.com for January
2008. Riding on the tails of a top notch review, this feature
includes an interview with Caveat's Greg Musgrave. They summed
it up by saying "Caveat - caution: a warning against certain
acts: "a caveat against unfair practices" Here's your
warning... These Canadian Prog metal masters play with such ferocity
and technical expertise your listening appendages may very well
bleed from the crushing musical torrent. With their latest sacrifice
to all that is heavy, "Red" is quickly gaining momentum
and more than worthy of acquiring.
Caveat had the honour of being named among the Top 3 local acts
for 2007 by Calgary's CJSW 90.9FM.
Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles gives "Red" an 8 out
of 10 and says "Caveat is a manic, speedy, spastic-addled
band that combines the best elements of fast melodic death, thrash,
prog, and straight-up metal to create a surprisingly cohesive
and interesting record. Call this western Canada’s emerging
signature sound, Caveat doing the scene proud with this strong
release that plays well, the listener being impressed and re-impressed
as the record continues." The album also made it onto editor
Tim Henderson's and reviewer David Perri's Brave Picks lists for
issue #107.
The
Prog Files give "Red" a 4.5 out of 5 and call it "full
of surprises, the band tastefully colors the canvas of their music...
a not-so-expected element of hard-core bands. I have to sum this
album up with the word: diverse. Caveat is in a league of their
own granting us bone crushing metal that pays homage to the prog
greats... a fine marriage indeed."
Neo-Zine calls Caveat "both sweet and scalding", with
"Red" being "so fresh and new that its hot! The
band seems comfortable at any speed or tempo, and they create
a structure that allows them to adjust those things very effectively.
Of course, the pit friendly mosh parts are a favorite. They are
tempered with nice melodic passages and sweet sounding solos.
This CD might go over with a larger segment of music fans, but
it will probably be be just "hard" enough for extremists,
purists, and hard core genre conservatives."
Caustic Truths magazine recently caught the buzz surrounding Caveat
prompting editor Richard Tanana to interview the band himself.
Red has been tearing up campus/community stations across Canada
staying in the Top 10 Metal charts for the 3 months since its
release.
The Metal Observer gives "Red" an 8.5/10 calling it
"a foundation made up by at times dizzyingly complex rhythms
and breaks, held together by immensely catchy melodies, everything
topped off by the very varied vocal approach, which brings us
guttural Death growls as well as aggressive vocals and clear singing
as well, sometimes layered together or going hand in hand as if
it was the easiest thing in the world, while the music runs circles
around you."
Caveat's "Red" charted at #3 on Toronto's CHRY 105.5FM
and #6 on Edmonton's CJSR 88.5 FM Loud charts during the week
ending 7 August 07.
Absolute Underground magazine says "from the moment I laid
eyes on the third and latest album from Caveat, I was immediately
drawn to the slick and prominent clear red jewel case, as well
as the powerful cover art that lay within. Caveat, with their
progressive and experimental style of metal, also seems to take
the same care in maintaining and blending a nice balance not only
with the visuals, but within the music as well. This album has
a variety of everything from rippin' epic yet sometimes dark guitar
melodies and thrash esq. drum beats to death and power metal vocals
and beyond." You can read the full review on page #39 of
the June/July issue HERE.
Caveat's "Red" debuted at #3 on Lethbridge's CKXU 88.3FM
charts for the week ending 10 July 07.
MetalNetRadio.net gives "Red" a 9/10 and says "complexity
and diversity comes to mind while listening to Caveat's latest
release 'Red'. One can't pin down one word to describe the audio
assault that the band brings to you with the 7 unique tracks presented.
'My Messiah', 'M.O.D' and 'Vindication' are all prime examples
of how Caveat take you through a maze of riffage, time changes
and colorful vocal melodies. So much to digest within every song,
this album will have you listening over and over again hearing
new things each time. Caveat's 'Red' puts the world on notice
that Calgary Alberta Canada is the home of new original heavy
metal."
Caveat's "Red" debuted at #2 on Toronto's CHRY 105.5FM
Loud charts during the week ending 24 June 07.
MetalNetRadio.com charted "Red" at #25 for all metal
albums released in the month of June.
The release of Caveat's Red was the featured press item on the
music industry's promotion site, Mi2N.
Caveat was featured in the February/March 2007 issue of Absolute
Underground.
